What does long-term recovery look like?

The short answer

A relapse doesn't end your recovery. It tells you something. Lots of people slip before they get free for good. What matters most is how quickly you stop, reconnect with support, and learn what led you there, without drowning in shame.

Right now

  • 1Stop now. One slip does not have to become a binge.
  • 2Remove access again: delete the app, hand over the card.
  • 3Tell your support person today. Saying it out loud makes the shame smaller.

Next 24 hours

  • 1Write down what led to the relapse: time, place, feeling, money.
  • 2Restart your blocks and self-exclusions.
  • 3Be kind to yourself. Recovery is progress, not perfection.

This week

  • 1Update your relapse-prevention plan with what you learned.
  • 2Increase support: an extra meeting or counseling session.
  • 3Plan ahead for payday and big events.
